Cosmetology students from Academy of Careers and Technology offer free haircuts

(RALEIGH COUNTY) Cosmetology students from the Academy of Careers and Technology offered free haircuts. Kids received a hair cut and style during the Back to School Wellness and Community Outreach Fair.

The service was a way to ensure that students returned back to school next week with a clean cut and style, while creating convenience for parents.

A haircut can help build confidence and good self esteem in children, and is also a good practice environment for cosmetology students.

“A lot of children are not able to have the experience of coming to a salon so we are giving them the experience of being in a salon giving them a little bit more self confidence. Being ready for the first day of school is really important and sets the stage of how the student really starts school and how the school year goes. So we really need to have a good confident student on that first day of school and providing these haircuts to these children is one part of that confidence,” Program Coordinator of the Cosmetology Department, Ann Thomas said.

There were more than 100 girls and boys who received a free haircut Saturday.
