STATELINE, Ill. (WIFR) — Students from grade school age through high school spend upwards of $1,000 for school supplies, according to a new study.
The Huntington’s Annual Backpack Index overviews data from 26 different states on estimated extracurricular fees and the use of technology to complete classroom assignments.
According to the index, parents can expect to pay per child:
-$1,017 for elementary school supplies, extracurricular fees and technology
-$1,277 for middle school supplies, extracurricular fees and technology
-$1,668 for high school supplies, extracurricular fees and technology
Survey results underscore the increased reliance on connected devices needed to complete school work.
Sixty-two percent of respondents said that elementary school students are at least sometimes asked to submit assignments online from home; the percentage only goes up from there.
