How to Teach Kids to Brush Their Teeth the Right Way

Starting oral care at an early age is necessary to ensuring total health to your kids. Oral hygiene habits should be taught from the young age itself so that the little ones grow into adults with knowledge of oral health. For that reason, parents should teach their children how to brush, how to clean their teeth and how to follow basic steps to brushing to avoid oral problems in future. Even dentists recommend that brushing should start the moment the first tooth emerges in the kid. The more you delay the more it will have bad effect on their oral health in future.

You should use a soft-bristled toothbrush and wet it with water to brush the infant teeth. You can consult the dentist to know whether you should use a fluoride toothpaste for the infant. It’s good to use even less than a pea-sized amount of the paste when your kid is less than two years old. And when children the age of 6-8 years, you can let them brush on own though you can keep an eye to make sure the child cleans all areas in the mouth. Such children must be taught to brush twice a day, once in the morning and then at night, for better oral care.

More so, parents can also choose electric toothbrush which is often battery-powered, and which provides better cleaning against plaque. It’s also necessary to change the toothbrush every three to four months to not allow frayed or worn-out bristles cause harm to your child’s teeth. It is also helpful to teach your child how to rinse the mouth with water as this can complement the brushing well. In most cases, children may not know the right way to brushing and it’s the duty of parents to teach them this. They can be taught how to clean the mouth and teeth thoroughly for maintaining oral health.

Further, children should also know the right technique or method to brushing their teeth as this can cerate the whole difference to their oral care exercise. Apart from brushing gently and thoroughly, the child should be taught to angle the toothbrush at 45-degrees towards the gums of the teeth for effective cleaning. Little ones should also know how to move the toothbrush gently in a back-and-forth motion using short strokes along the gums and teeth for effective cleaning. By using this technique to all corners of the mouth, you can achieve total cleaning easily and this is how pearly whites become a reality.
