Breaking: Raiders CB Nevin Lawson suspended first four games of season for PED violation

It figures minutes after I named Nevin Lawson as a sleeper for the first half of the Raiders’ training camp that he announced he will be suspended for the first four games of this season.

Lawson announced with a statement posted to twitter that he had unknowingly ingested a banned substance. He apologized to his family, teammates and fans and would be more cautious in future.

The sixth year cornerback signed a free agent deal with the Raiders this offseason after five seasons in Detroit where he appeared in 62 games, starting 54. He has been the first cornerback off the bench this camp behind starters Gareon Conley and Daryl Worley.

Most likely stepping up into that role in his absence will be rookie second round pick Trayvon Mullen. With Lamarcus Joyner as the nickel cornerback and second year corner Nick Nelson behind him, the Raiders should be ok in Lawson’s absence. Good thing they were deep at the position.
