It didn’t take long for President Trump to pump up one of his supporters in the aftermath of Saturday’s fatal shooting at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas.
Trump tweeted his support of UFC star Colby Covington, who will compete against Robbie Lawler on Saturday night at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Both Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump are rumored to be in attendance at the fight.
“Fight hard tonight Colby,” Trump tweeted as details surrounding the tragic shooting continued to unfold. “You are a real Champ! #MAGA”
Covington has been a vocal supporter of the president and has visited the White House several times to meet with Trump. Covington even boasted about the president’s two sons, who promised to attend his spotlight match-up against Lawler.
“They’re gonna be front row at my fight this weekend when I retire Robbie Lawler,” Covington told TMZ Sports. “This is official.”
Just a few minutes before his tweet encouraging Covington, Trump tweeted his condolences for the victims of the shooting and pledged his administration’s full assistance to local law enforcement in El Paso.
“Terrible shootings in ElPaso, Texas. Reports are very bad, many killed. Working with State and Local authorities, and Law Enforcement. Spoke to Governor to pledge total support of Federal Government. God be with you all!” Trump wrote.

El Paso Mayor Dee Margo’s office said there were multiple fatalities after the shooting. A law enforcement official told the Washington Examiner that 21-year-old Patrick Crusius from Dallas, Texas, had been taken into custody, but police had not officially given the identity of the suspect.
One local report said at least 18 people were killed, which remains unconfirmed at this time.
