New medical technology introduced into Perry County Schools

PERRY COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) – A new type of technology is being introduced into several schools in Perry County, but it’s not the type of technology that might you might be thinking about.

Its telemedicine technology allowing students to be treated by a provider right at school.

The equipment has the capability to check the student’s lungs, heart, throat, and ears just as if you were going to the clinic.

Cassandra Artrip, a Perry County school nurse, says this opens up the health care opens to students that might not have been available before.

“A lot of our students in the Perry County School system have trouble with transportation, so I just think it will be a great way for them to access health care,” Artrip says allowing for more convenience for everyone. “It will be a great convenience for parents. They won’t have to leave work to come to school to get their children and then go to the clinic.”

Perry county Superintendent, Jonathan Jett, says this technology is not only good for students medically, but also allows them to get more time in the classroom.

“It also allows them to stay in school and not miss out on valuable instructional time. If it’s just a cold or something that might not be contagious,” Jett says while also helping the people who take care of the children while there at school.

“It’s an opportunity for our staff members to see a provider while they are at work,” said Jett.

All within the school walls.

“This is just another opportunity for us to provide that service within our school building,” said Jett.

The technology will be implemented in six Perry County schools.
