KANSAS CITY – BREAKING NEWS: The Blue Jays have traded pitchers Aaron Sanchez and Joe Biagini to the Houston Astros.
In return, Toronto gets outfielder Derek Fisher. The Jays also sent Cal Stevenson to Houston as part of the deal.
News of the trade came just ahead of the deadline and hours after relief pitcher Daniel Hudson was dealt to the Washington Nationals.
Hudson had been a reliable arm in the Toronto bullpen, increasingly used in high leverage situations by manager Charlie Montoyo.
In his final 21 games with the Jays, he allowed just five runs in 24.1 innings and had a killer 0.90 ERA on the road.
The Jays signed Hudson to a one-year deal as a free agent in March to add some depth to the bullpen and ideally to flip him at the trade deadline. Pitcher Kyle Johnson, who was been with the Nats single A affiliate, is the return for Hudson.
Justin Smoak and Ken Giles remain with the Jays.
