Program Description: a program for the working professional, with concentration in Cybersecurity

Information Technology (IT) and Cybersecurity program provides IT and business professionals with access to advanced training in emerging and cutting edge technologies. The program is delivered in a “hybrid” format in which students complete the program in 5 semesters (each year has 3 semesters), with online work during the semester and a 3-day on-campus residency each semester.

The program is offered in a delivery format customized for the working professional. Taught by faculty who are industry experts, this degree will fast-track the students’ development in the new and emerging technologies needed to advance professionally in the IT and Cybersecurity fields.

Hybrid Program

  • The program follows a 5-semester structure, with mandatory 3-day residencies at the end of each semester. Students must attend all residencies to continue enrollment in the program.
  • In the period before and after the residencies, students will complete their course work online. Instructors will maintain regular ‘virtual’ office hours and will be available to assist students as required throughout the semester.
  • A Virtual Orientation Session to cover immigration issues, academics, login processes, billing and payments, and an opportunity to meet the faculty and staff of NEC will take place a week before the term start. Admitted students will receive the link to access the orientation session.
  • An internship is required each semester, starting in the first semester.
  • Students must take at least seven credits per semester to be considered full-time.

Curriculum

The NEC curriculum focuses on the primary topics that the ACM (Association of Computer Machinery) identifies as the pillars of an IT curriculum, with a new focus on Cybersecurity.

Descriptions for core and concentration CIS courses can be found here.

Degree Requirements

A total of 36 credit hours are required for program completion: ten three-credit courses and six credits of CPT.

Attendance Policy

  • Due to the hybrid nature of our residency model, online attendance is required each week of the semester. This means that students will not be allowed to register after the official semester start date.
  • Residency weekend sessions are mandatory. International students must attend each residency session in full, including all classes and meetings in the residency, to receive credit and to fulfill the immigration in-seat class component, to maintain F-1 status. An international student who misses any part of the semester will be counted absent for the entire semester. This will result in SEVIS record termination for international students. No exceptions will be made to this policy.
