Australia’s Olympic champion Kyle Chalmers has fallen just short of claiming gold at the world swimming titles after finishing second to American Caeleb Dressel in the men’s 100 metres freestyle final in Gwangju, South Korea.

Chalmers came home strongly in the second lap to produce a personal best time of 47.08 seconds to be narrowly beaten to the wall by Dressel (46.96), who was the defending champion in the event.

The 21-year-old Chalmers had already won bronze at the world titles in the men’s 4x100m freestyle final.

More to come.
