Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 To Boast Ground-Breaking New Feature, Report Claims

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 To Boast Ground-Breaking New Feature, Report Claims

Samsung’s next smartwatch will have a new way of interacting with it, that will satisfy users who mourn the absence of the rotating bezel found on earlier models.

That’s the claim made by Sammobile, which has a strong track record in these things.

The absence of the rotating bezel began earlier this year, when the Samsung Galaxy Active watch was launched.

The bezel had been a unique feature, allowing simple ways to interact with the smartwatch by spinning it. The Apple Watch has a Digital Crown that does similar things but it’s not quite the same. So, its removal was a surprise.

The Galaxy Watch Active benefited, though, from the fact that without the rotating bezel, it could be lighter and less bulky. It also made for a pleasingly tactile edge to the watch’s case.

But for those who miss that rotating interface, the next watch may have the answer. Specifically, the bezel on the next Galaxy Watch could be touch-sensitive

Recently, Samsung trademarked several phrases including Digital Bezel and Touch Bezel. Most significantly, the words Touch Wheel have been trademarked. Of course, it’s possible that Touch Bezel or Digital Bezel could be for other products such as the upcoming Galaxy Note 10. Touch Wheel seems to be a perfect fit for a circular watch. It’s also true that Touch Bezel could apply to the bezel on a watch as much as a phone.

Either way, it helps confirm the idea that the slim, smooth bezel on the Galaxy Watch Active, which will presumably be found on the Galaxy Watch Active 2, will let the user swipe a finger round the edge of the watch rather in the way that it was possible to rotate the bezel on earlier watches.

It looks like the next Galaxy Watch Active will have similar measurements and weights to the current version, that is 40mm and 44mm cases and weigh 31g and 36g. Those stats are for the aluminum model though a stainless-steel model with cellular connectivity is also predicted.

Apparently, the internals will be the same as on the current Galaxy Watch Active and previous Galaxy Watch.

We’ve already heard that the next watch is likely to steal some thunder from the latest Apple Watch by offering the capability of recording an ECG on your wrist.

It may not be too long before we know for sure. Samsung has an event scheduled for August 7 and while this is likely to focus on the Note 10, there is a good chance the Galaxy Watch Active 2 will also appear. If not, it’s a shoo-in for the IFA electronics show in Berlin scheduled for early September.
