Before Thor: Love and Thunder comes out, director Taika Waititi’s newest film, JoJo Rabbit, will hit theaters in October.
Based on a book called Caging Skies, by New Zealand author Christine Leunens, the dark comedy satire is about a lonely little boy named Jojo (Roman Griffin Davis) growing up in World War 2 Germany, whose only friend just happens to be an imaginary version of Hitler (played by Taika Waititi). When Jojo discoverers that his mother (Scarlett Johansson) is hiding a Jewish girl (Thomasin McKenzie) in their attic, he must confront his naive nationalistic worldview.
The trailer shows off Waititi’s comical version of Hitler, who comes to Jojo’s aid after he runs away from some bullies.
“People used to say a lot of nasty things about me,” says fantasy Hitler, comforting the young boy. “Oh, this guy’s a lunatic. Look at that psycho, he’s going to get us all killed.”
Jojo Rabbit also stars Rebel Wilson as Fräulein Rahm, Sam Rockwell as Captain Klenzendorf, and Alfie Allen as Finkel. It comes out on Oct. 18.
