Yankees-Rays bad blood spill over as benches clear

There’s been no shortage of bad blood between the Yankees and Rays this season — stemming back to last year — and it briefly flared up after the top of the sixth on Tuesday night when CC Sabathia and Avisail Garcia had to be separated.

Sabathia struck out Garcia looking to end the inning and appeared to say something, which caught Garcia’s attention.

Sabathia may have been talking to home plate umpire Phil Cuzzi, but then he and Garcia started jawing at each other, with Didi Gregorius holding Sabathia back as the dugouts emptied and bullpens cleared.

Earlier this year, the Yankees were upset about several of their players getting hit by pitches and last season, Sabathia was tossed from a game for retaliating after Andrew Kittredge threw a pitch near Austin Romine’s head. Sabathia was also ejected for that incident, which earned him a one-game suspension served at the beginning of this year.
