UPDATE: Beloit standoff ends peacefully, suspect in custody

UPDATE (WKOW) — Court documents filed in Rock County in April reveal the suspect in an all-night standoff at a Beloit apartment complex was accused of terrorizing an ex-girlfriend including allegedly shooting at her head and sexually and physically assaulting her.

Alexander Duke, 32, was arrested Wednesday morning after surrendering to officers and deputies outside his girlfriend’s apartment on the northwest side of Beloit.

Duke allegedly shot at his girlfriend’s head after she tried to breakup with him in her apartment in March, a criminal complaint states. After the bullet fired, Duke then forced the woman to drive with him to his home in Rockford, IL, where he kept and assaulted her.

“This guy has really terrorized Rockford and Beloit. Both departments have been looking for him feverishly for several months,” Beloit Police Chief Dave Zibolski said. “So he was definitely a good person to get into custody and get him out of here.”

Zibolski says both departments published Duke’s name and photo on social media and other mediums while they searched for him. An observant person in the area early Wednesday morning saw Duke and called police, Zibolski said.

Police Cheif David Zibolski said the suspect is Alexander Duke. He was wanted on several felony charges in Rock County and Winnebago County, Illinois including kidnapping, first-degree recklessly endangering safety, and sexual assault.

Duke reportedly walked out of the apartment just before 11 a.m. without incident

Cheif Zibolski said his team convinced him that surrendering was the safest solution.

The 29-year-old female victim involved in the situation has no “obvious injuries,” but they will be interviewing her to be sure.

Authorities said the suspect and the victim had a previous intimate relationship.
