The technology of tomorrow coming to Meridian

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – Meridian City Council members discussed the technology of tomorrow at its meeting Tuesday night. A company that provides super high speed internet is coming to the Queen City. In fact, Meridian will be the second in the state to get this new service.

Telepak Network offers high-speed Internet, enhanced digital video services, as well as local and long distance phone service for homes and businesses.

“This is a 25 year agreement with Telepak. They will be bringing high speed fiber. The city will receive 5% of gross revenue on their video services and will receive 2% of their gross revenue on local calling,” said Chief Administrative Officer Richie McAlister.

Officials said Telepak Network already has a strong reputation in the telecommunications industry as one of the leading independent providers of Internet, telecommunications and network services.

“I think it’s going to open up the highways of communication. People will communicate with one another at a higher speed. And at the same time for recruiting industry in the future, now we’ll have this tool in the tool box. Will have high-speed internet that many other companies don’t have. It’s bringing the city of Meridian to a new age and we’re excited about that,” said McAlister.

McAlister says this is a non-exclusive agreement meaning other entities can offer the same type of service.
