Man who ‘choked, assaulted and robbed Ashfield woman in break and enter’ charged

A man will face court in Sydney accused of attempting to sexually assault a woman after breaking into her home before fleeing with her mobile phone and transferring money to himself digitally.

A police investigation was this week launched after authorities received reports the man allegedly entered the 22-year-old’s woman’s Ashfield bedroom and threatened her.

The 21-year-old Malaysian national is accused of then physically assaulting the woman, who is not known to him, and fleeing after she alerted a housemate.

It is also alleged that the man took the woman’s phone during the altercation and transferred money from her bank account to himself after leaving the property.

The accused offender was arrested by police at a business in Ashfield about 9am yesterday.

He has since been charged with eight crimes including attempted aggravated sexual assault, obtaining financial advantage by deception, aggravated break and enter and choking a person.

The man has been refused bail by police and will appear at Parramatta Bail Court later today.

Anyone with information about this incident should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
