FLOYD SCHOOLS VANDALISM: Vandals caught on camera breaking into another school in Floyd County

Vandals caught on camera breaking into another school in Floyd County

FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. – For the third time in just a few weeks, vandals have left behind a huge mess to clean at a school in Floyd County.

This time, two people caused thousands of dollars in damage at a local high school — and it was all caught on camera.

Channel 2’s Audrey Washington got hold of the video showing the vandals breaking into Pepperell High School. Police tell Washington they believe the vandals are just 12 to 14 years old.

“This is like a gut punch to us,” said Scotty Hattaway, deputy superintendent of operations for Floyd County Schools.

The surveillance video shows the moment the pair broke into the Pepperell High School concession stand Sunday.

The vending machines were smashed and supplies and candy were left all over the floor. The boys trashed the place but didn’t realize they were caught on camera.

Officers told Washington the vandals smashed the windows and reached inside to open the doors. Once inside, police say the boys threw around just about anything they could find.

Police believe the two are also responsible for the June 14 vandalism at Pepperell Middle School.

Police recovered fingerprints at both schools and are using touch DNA to try to find them. School officials are confident the vandals will be caught soon.

“Our hope is that they’re apprehended by the end of the week,” Hattaway said.

This is now the third school break-in this summer in Floyd County. Washington previously reported on a break in at North Heights Elementary.

Rome police said four people stole thousands of dollars in computer equipment, but they don’t believe it is connected to the vandalism at the other schools.
