AMHERST — A 49-year old Greenfield man was arrested early Friday morning for allegedly breaking into a home the previous night.

Officers were called to 32 Mountain View Circle Thursday at 11:29 p.m. for reports of forced entry to the home, according to Amherst Police Detective Nicholas Chandler.

Chandler said police discovered a broken sliding door at the home, with glass on the ground. The alleged crime is suspected to have taken place around 8 p.m. the same night. He said $100 in cash and $20 worth of cigarettes were reported missing from the house.

While investigating the crime, police identified Charles Kimplin of Greenfield as the suspect. Kimplin was approached by officers Friday at around 5:45 a.m. outside 132 N. Pleasant St. and was found to be in possession of the stolen items, Chandler said.

Police arrested Kimplin on charges of breaking and entering in the nighttime for a felony, larceny from a building and vandalizing property.
