If there’s one thing on everyone’s lips at the moment, it’s the scorching weather. Barbecues across the country have been dusted off and paddling pools fished from the garage.
But while Britain’s beaches may have been packed with those enjoying the sun, heatwaves such as this weekend are creating challenges for those trying to stay cool in homes, offices and public buildings.
“Hospitals aren’t ready for it,” says Dr Nick Scriven, the president of the Society for Acute Medicine. “I think care homes are even less prepared for it. For every two days the temperature is up, it’s another four days after that that you see the effect in hospitals. ”
