CHICOPEE – A 21-year-old Springfield man was arrested early Sunday in connection with a car break-in on Broadway Street after he was spotted speeding away from the scene, police said.
George Vinas, 21, of Moreland St., is charged with breaking and entering into a motor vehicle, speeding, and driving without headlights.
Police spokesman Mike Wilk said a resident of Broadway Street supplied police with surveillance video of a suspect in the 4:30 a.m. break-in. When he was stopped, Vinas was wearing the same clothing as a person in the video, and a flashlight similar to the suspect’s was found in his car.
Wilk said that when police asked him where he had been, he said he replied that he had been visiting a woman at an address on Broadway Street, which was the same house where the break-in had been reported. He was unable to tell the police the woman’s name.
