Some took to social media to mock the journalist who was attacked by antifa on Saturday while reporting on demonstrations in downtown Portland, Oregon.
In a video that has gone viral, antifa protesters are seen kicking and throwing things at Andy Ngo, who later tweeted that he had to go to the emergency room. According to Ngo’s lawyer, he suffered a brain bleed from the attack and had to stay in the hospital overnight.
Portland Police tweeted that some of what appeared to be milkshakes were actually containers filled with quick-drying cement.
Police have received information that some of the milkshakes thrown today during the demonstration contained quick-drying cement. We are encouraging anyone hit with a substance today to report it to police.

Ngo’s tweets about his attack were met with ridicule, while others blamed the attack on him.
Thread from a great journalist who routinely embeds w/ hate groups. This doesn’t discount that the situation is fucked and that violence should be unacceptable. But there are also serious risks involved with putting yourself in volatile situations. Any journalist should know that https://t.co/KPmaiSrmoM

Andy Ngo is someone who antagonizes those he knows will react in a disproportionate way and this exact outcome was inevitable. Everyone knew it.
Those who assaulted him, however, are the ones at fault here. https://t.co/CKyYzxdESh

RIP Andy Ngo, whose brain exploded into diarrhea fragments from getting hit with a single piece of silly string. Esteemed brain experts reported ‘we’ve never seen so much thin broth inside someone’s skull before.’ The WSJ commented: ‘Nooo!!! Who will we hire to be racist now?!?!’ https://t.co/2FMTwLXR77

Violence is completely wrong, and I find it sad and weak to allow a sniveling weasel like Andy Ngo to get under one’s skin like this, but I’m also not going to pretend that this wasn’t Ngo’s goal from the start.
I mean… let’s cut the shit here. This is what they do.

I’d argue what the fear mongering he’s done against Muslims plus the work he’s done to discredit hate crimes, helped create an atmosphere of violence that vulnerable people all have to live through just for being who they are. This is bad, but he’s guilty of worse.

After relentlessly baiting and harassing antifa, far-right provocateur Andy Ngo finally got his wish of being milkshaked. Far-right simpletons like Tim Pool will milk this “victim” story for the next week at least. pic.twitter.com/7thyQ4wESk

When Jake Tapper tweeted how antifa has a long history of attacking journalists, people went after the CNN anchor.
You are severely misinformed, Jake. Get yourself together.

He is not a journalist. He’s a propagandist and advocate of scientific racism who goes to these things trying to start shit in hopes of getting attacked. If he was hit by something other than a milkshake or silly string, that’s not OK, doesn’t make him a “journalist” though.

Some deleted their initial tweets after watching the seriousness of the attack, such as Media Matters for America editor-at-large Parker Molloy.
