Angela Merkel health fears: German leader seen shaking again - VIDEO | World | News

The German Chancellor appeared unstable on her feet and trembling as she met with the German President, in her second spell of shaking in under two weeks. In concerning video footage, Mrs Merkel is seen crossing her arms as though to steady herself while attending a meeting with President Steinmeier. An assistant at the event can be seen offering the German Chancellor a glass of water as Germany faces record-breaking June temperatures.

A spokesman for the German Chancellor confirmed she is fine and will be participating in the swearing-in of the new Justice Minister later today.

Mrs Merkel is then set to fly on a German Government Airbus A340 to attend the G20 summit in Japan.

Her spokesman also confirmed she will still be participating in the G20 meeting.

He said: “Everything is taking place as planned. The Chancellor is well.”

Mrs Merkel also left onlookers concerned last week as she was seen visibly shaking and unsteady as she greeted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Berlin.

The video footage was taken as a military band played the German and Ukrainian national anthems outside the Chancellery.

Following the unsettling moment, a journalist during a news conference later asked the German Chancellor about the unusual interlude, asking: “We saw that when you were waiting outside during the military honours, you started shaking.

“How are you personally feeling? Should citizens be worried?”

Chancellor Merkel reportedly smiled, shook her head and mouthed “no”.

Ms Merkel then responded: “I have now had at least three glasses of water. That was apparently needed. And therefore I’m very well.”

Chancellor Merkel turns 65 next month – it is not known if she has any health issues.

Mrs Merkel is set to meet with US President Donald Trump at the G20 summit on Friday morning.

Donald Trump has previously criticised Nato countries and at a Nato summit last year he launched a brutal attack on the German Chancellor’s spending on defence.
