Cancer center open house showcases new technology, support services

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – The public could see all the newest technology and services available at the Cotton O’Neil Cancer Center Saturday morning.

The health care facility held an open house allowing people to meet members of the cancer center team, and witness all the cutting edge technology they have there. Folks could take a tour, and learn about services and support groups available for cancer patients and their families.

Radiation Oncologist Dr. John Ma says this event shows people don’t have to travel far for quality cancer treatment. The center even has a new machine called the Varian Truebeam that Ma says is a game changer.

“[The machine] is able to treat very, very, tiny little cancer tumors, sometimes less than one centimeter, focusing on it and really sparing some of the normal tissues and surrounding structures,” Ma explained.

This is the first time they’ve held the open house and say they may make it an annual event.

The Cotton O’Neil Cancer Center is located at 1414 SW 8th Avenue in Topeka.
