Williamson County sheriff’s deputies arrested and charged a Thompson’s Station resident with criminal homicide and aggravated assault Wednesday afternoon after an altercation between the suspect and his father that turned deadly.
The suspect, 36 year-old James Smithson Jr., allegedly shot his father, James Smithson Sr., following a family dispute around noon on Wednesday in a home on Cayce Springs Road in Thompson’s Station. Smithson Jr. then ran out of the home into a nearby wooded area, according to authorities.
After a search that involved county sheriff’s deputies, a SWAT team, a K9 unit and the county Sheriff Department helicopter Air One, and a warning to the community to stay indoors, authorities apprehended Smithson Jr. at a home nearby. Smithson Jr. surrendered once authorities made contact with him.
Smithson Jr. is currently being held at the Williamson County Jail in Franklin on a $500,000 bond, and is scheduled to appear in General Session Court on July 11, 2019 at 1 p.m.
