Venkaiah Naidu: Technology holds the key to delivery of services: Vice president M Venkaiah Naidu

Thank you for your response

NEW DELHI: Technology is a great democratic tool which is not only an enabler but also an equaliser and a stabiliser, said Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu at the launch of ETGovernment.Com on Friday. The vice president said that technology has been a game changer and has progressively helped in eliminating corruption and middlemen while ensuring transparency and improving delivery of services in several areas such as healthcare, land registration, transport, tax collection, urban planning and even civil supplies. “I am happy that ETGovernment portal (launched by The Economic Times) will go a long way in spreading awareness about the transformative potential of digital technology and making governance systems more accessible to all citizens,” said Naidu.

The vice president said that technology has become so ubiquitous today that no aspect of life is untouched by it. “The world is moving faster and we also are in the era of LPG — which is liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation. That is an opportunity as well as a challenge,” he said.

Governance, management and delivery of services to citizens are also swiftly getting transformed, he said. “The processes are getting more citizen-centric and citizenfriendly,” Naidu said, noting that today people are not much concerned about any particular ideology or manifesto. “They are more concerned about services, delivery and good governance.”

People want effective delivery without any hindrance, timely delivery and information with confirmation, said the vice president. “If you give information with confirmation, that is ammunition for the people,” he said. Now India is going to the next level, Naidu said, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is trying to transform the country in every sense, as he cited the three-point mantra — reform, perform and transform. “Indian government is making a rapid progress towards improving the economy and ensuring a general level of prosperity in tune with the philosophy of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas (together with all, development for all),” said Naidu. “Technology, research and science, and all these reforms, are aimed at making people’s lives more comfortable.”

The vice president said that the fast-growing digitisation of the Indian economy has the potential to not only boost sectors such as IT, digital communications and online retail but also transform several other areas of the economy such as financial services and agriculture. “Digitalisation is an important driver of growth. It ensures transparency and builds confidence among investors,” he said.
