Breaking: Suspect in Vass Murder Arrested in Texas | News

A man wanted in connection with a homicide discovered early Saturday morning in Vass has been arrested in Texas, according to Sheriff Ronnie Fields.

Sheriff’s deputies received a tip from an out-of-state law enforcement agency that a crime had taken place at a residence in the 400 block of Rollins Road, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office Saturday afternoon. After arriving at the home, which is at the end of a long dirt road, they discovered the body of a man and determined it was a homicide.

The victim was identified as Rex Hayes Watson, 57, who lived at the residence. Deputies have not released the cause of death and when it was believed to have occurred.

Maj.Andy Conway said late Saturday afternoon that an autopsy will be performed early next week to determine the cause of death. He said he could not provide any other details.

With the assistance of the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office in Texas, Moore County detectives arrested Dallas Lester Walters Jr., 48, and charged him with murder, the news release said.

Sheriff’s investigators say the suspect and the victim were roommates and that this was not a random act of violence, according to the news release.

Walters will be held without bond pending extradition to Moore County at a later date.

No other details were immediately released.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available from the Sheriff’s Office.
