SYCAMORE – A Wood Dale man accused of beating up a woman at a DeKalb hotel is being held on $50,000 bond that he says he can’t pay.
Kamil Chworos, 30, of the 500 block of George Street, was charged with aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery. Police said in court records that he put a woman in a headlock and punched her, breaking her nose and leaving a gash above her eye in the early morning hours of May 19 at the Baymont Inn and Suites in the 1300 block of West Lincoln Highway, DeKalb.
If convicted of the most serious charge of aggravated battery, Chworos could face up to seven years in prison. He was arrested Monday by DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies, records show.
Assistant State’s Attorney Alesandra Friend said in court Tuesday that Chworos faced other domestic battery charges in DuPage and Cook County and that he had sent threatening messages to the victim. She requested Chworos be held on a $50,000 bond and would need $5,000 to get out of jail.
Chworos, present in court via closed circuit TV, said he could come up with $2,000.
“Please give me a chance, Your Honor,” he said. “Please.”
Judge Phillip Montgomery said that by one metric determined by pre-trail services, Chworos was at the highest rick to reoffend. Were he to post bail, Chworos would be subject pre-trial supervision, restricted electronic home monitoring and not b allowed any contact with the victim.Montgomery appointed the public defender’s office to represent Chworos. He is scheduled for a bond reduction hearing on June 15.
