BREAKING: Flood Warning issued for Burke; several roads impassable | News

...HEAVY RAINFALL AND ASSOCIATED FLASH FLOODING EXPECTED TODAY
THROUGH SUNDAY ACROSS MUCH OF THE WESTERN CAROLINAS AND EXTREME
NORTHEAST GEORGIA...

.SEVERAL WAVES OF HEAVY RAIN PRODUCING SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS
WILL MOVE NORTHWARD ACROSS THE WESTERN CAROLINAS AND NORTHEAST
GEORGIA THROUGH SUNDAY. THESE SHOWERS WILL BE VERY EFFICIENT
HEAVY RAIN PRODUCERS, EASILY DUMPING 1 TO 2 INCHES OR MORE OF
RAINFALL IN AN HOUR IN THE HEAVIEST DOWNPOURS. SOME OF THE RAIN
SHOWER BANDS COULD SET UP SUCH THAT CERTAIN LOCATIONS WITHIN THE
WATCH AREA EXPERIENCE MULTIPLE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS IN SHORT
SUCCESSION. ALTHOUGH CONDITIONS HAVE BEEN DRY OVER THE PAST MONTH,
HEAVY RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 1 TO 2 INCHES, WITH 5 TO 6 INCHES IN A
FEW LOCATIONS, AFFECTED THE REGION ON FRIDAY. THE ADDITIONAL
RAINFALL WILL LIKELY LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING, WITH SOME LOCALLY
SIGNIFICANT FLOODING LIKELY DEVELOPING QUICKLY, ESPECIALLY IN
URBAN AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS. THE HEAVY RAIN THREAT MAY LINGER
BEYOND THE PERIOD OF THE CURRENT FLASH FLOOD WATCH.

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING...

THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR

* PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST GEORGIA, NORTH CAROLINA, AND UPSTATE
SOUTH CAROLINA, INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING AREAS, IN NORTHEAST
GEORGIA, FRANKLIN, HABERSHAM, HART, RABUN, AND STEPHENS. IN
NORTH CAROLINA, ALEXANDER, AVERY, BUNCOMBE, BURKE MOUNTAINS,
CABARRUS, CALDWELL MOUNTAINS, CATAWBA, CLEVELAND, DAVIE,
EASTERN MCDOWELL, EASTERN POLK, GASTON, GREATER BURKE, GREATER
CALDWELL, GREATER RUTHERFORD, HENDERSON, IREDELL, LINCOLN,
MACON, MCDOWELL MOUNTAINS, MECKLENBURG, MITCHELL, NORTHERN
JACKSON, POLK MOUNTAINS, ROWAN, RUTHERFORD MOUNTAINS, SOUTHERN
JACKSON, TRANSYLVANIA, UNION, AND YANCEY. IN UPSTATE SOUTH
CAROLINA, ANDERSON, CHEROKEE, CHESTER, GREATER GREENVILLE,
GREATER OCONEE, GREATER PICKENS, GREENVILLE MOUNTAINS, OCONEE
MOUNTAINS, PICKENS MOUNTAINS, SPARTANBURG, UNION, AND YORK.

* THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING

* ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 2 TO 4 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS
THE REGION TODAY THROUGH SUNDAY, WITH SOME LOCATIONS IN AND NEAR
THE MOUNTAINS LIKELY SEEING 4 TO 6 INCHES. LOCALLY HIGHER
AMOUNTS CAN BE EXPECTED WITH ANY TORRENTIAL RAIN SHOWERS
REPEATEDLY AFFECTING THE SAME LOCATION. THIS COULD CAUSE FLASH
FLOODING TO DEVELOP VERY QUICKLY.

* THE HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE STREAMS TO RISE QUICKLY AND SOME
MIGHT COME OUT OF THEIR BANKS. URBAN FLOODING MAY ALSO OCCUR
IN LOCATIONS THAT HAVE POOR DRAINAGE. IF MORE THAN 5 INCHES OF
RAIN WERE TO FALL, SOME LOCATIONS ALONG AND NEAR THE BLUE
RIDGE ESCARPMENT COULD HAVE ISOLATED LANDSLIDE ACTIVITY,
ESPECIALLY ALONG MODIFIED SLOPES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD
TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION
SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.
